About Decentraland
Decentraland is a virtual world on Ethereum run by a DAO; MANA is the token used to buy land, names and items and to vote.
Decentraland is a three-dimensional virtual world on Ethereum. Users can build, visit and earn from scenes, games and items. Parcels of virtual land are LAND NFTs. MANA is the ERC-20 token used to pay for LAND, names and wearables in the marketplace.
MANA was sold in an ICO on 18 August 2017 that raised about $24.1 million, and the world opened to the public in February 2020. A Foundation holds the platform’s intellectual property. A DAO, in which MANA, LAND and NAMES holders vote, controls the LAND contracts, a grants fund and marketplace fees. The MANA contract itself cannot be changed by the DAO.
About 1.99 billion MANA circulate out of a total of 2.19 billion. In 2026 the world became available on the Epic Games Store. The SEC named MANA as a security in its 2023 case against Binance, which was dismissed in May 2025.
