Compound is open source and run through on-chain governance, with service providers such as Gauntlet proposing changes. Governance proposals such as COMP Staker have been discussed since March 2025 without a completed vote found.

In July 2024 a whale group passed Proposal 289 by 682,191 to 633,636 votes, showing that large holders can swing governance. No ETF or listed treasury holder of COMP was found.

COMP supply is fixed at 10 million and fully circulating, so there are no unlocks. Holders receive no protocol revenue today; a 2024 settlement and a 2025 proposal aim to share reserves with stakers.

DefiLlama showed about $1.52 billion locked in Compound V3 on 1 October 2026 and protocol revenue of about $2.68 million over the past year.
