More details

MEXC offers spot trading with full settlement and publishes monthly proof of reserves, but it holds no disclosed licence in any major jurisdiction and was fined by Dubai's VARA in June 2026 for serving Dubai customers without a licence and without required KYC. Its reliability score of 4.7 is below our threshold, so we do not recommend it for Muslim investors. Spot trading on MEXC settles immediately, which meets the AAOIFI requirement of immediate exchange (Shariah Standard No. 1 and No. 20). A large part of the platform is built around products that fail these standards: perpetual futures, margin, leveraged ETF tokens, copy trading of futures, and Earn/Savings products that pay a fixed or variable yield on deposits (riba). MEXC has no Islamic account, no Shariah-certified product and no Shariah screening of its catalogue of several thousand tokens, many of them small, speculative listings. Reliability is the deciding factor. On the positive side, MEXC publishes monthly proof of reserves with a Merkle tree, verified by the security firm Hacken; the September 2026 snapshot (10 September) reported about 297% for BTC and 111-119% for ETH, USDT and USDC. It also discloses the on-chain addresses of a Guardian Fund (announced at USD 100 million, planned to reach USD 500 million) and reports a futures insurance fund of about 791.7 million USDT as of September 2026. On the negative side, MEXC's own pages disclose no licence; its User Agreement does not name the operating entity and says nothing about segregation of client assets, while reserving broad rights to freeze accounts. Dubai's VARA issued an investor alert on 5 March 2026 and a notice of fines on 22 June 2026, finding that MX Global LTD served Dubai customers without a licence from 2022 to April 2026 and onboarded users without meeting KYC obligations. From July to October 2025 MEXC froze about USD 3 million of one trader's funds, releasing them on 31 October 2025 with a public apology after criticism; other users reported similar freezes. No major hack of the exchange was found. MEXC does not serve residents of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Hong Kong, mainland China and sanctioned countries (User Agreement, May 2025). With a reliability score of 4.7 out of 10, the rule for this content fill classifies it as not recommended. A user who still holds assets there should keep to spot trading of coins rated halal on Liberandum and withdraw to self-custody.

No dedicated halal product

MEXC offers no Islamic (swap-free) account and no Shariah-certified earn or staking product as of September 2026. Its Earn and Savings products pay yield on deposited assets and should be avoided.

No token screening

MEXC does not screen listed tokens for Shariah compliance. It lists several thousand tokens, including many small and speculative ones; its listing review is not a Shariah screen. Check each coin on Liberandum before buying.

Step by step

How to trade halal on MEXC

  1. Check that MEXC may serve you

MEXC does not accept users from the US, UK, Canada, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Hong Kong and sanctioned countries, and Dubai's regulator has ordered it to stop unlicensed activity there. If a licensed exchange is available in your country, prefer it.

  2. Register and complete full KYC

Sign up, enable two-factor authentication and complete identity verification (ID and selfie) before depositing, so withdrawals are not limited or frozen later.

  3. Fund the account without interest products

Deposit crypto from another wallet, or use Buy Crypto (P2P or card through third-party providers). Do not move funds into MEXC Earn, Savings or Launchpool products that pay yield on deposits.

  4. Trade only on Spot

Use the Spot section with full settlement. Do not use Futures, Margin, leveraged ETF tokens, Copy Trade of futures or any product with borrowing or leverage.

  5. Check each coin on Liberandum

MEXC lists thousands of tokens with no Shariah screening. Before buying, check the coin's halal status on Liberandum and avoid meme and gambling-related tokens.

  6. Withdraw to self-custody

After buying, withdraw coins to your own wallet. Given MEXC's history of account freezes and lack of licences, do not keep long-term holdings on the exchange.
