About TRON
TRX is the native coin of TRON, a low-fee blockchain widely used for stablecoin transfers.
TRON is a public blockchain founded by Justin Sun. TRX was first sold in an initial coin offering in August–September 2017, before TRON's own network existed, and TRON's own mainnet started with its genesis block on 25 June 2018. The Tron Foundation, set up by Sun in Singapore in 2017, promoted and developed the network; official reports are now published under the name TRON DAO.
TRX has no fixed supply cap. The genesis block created 100 billion TRX, of which 40% was sold in the ICO and the rest went to the Tron Foundation and ecosystem (35%), a private sale (15%) and a Sun-controlled company (10%). New TRX is minted every block as rewards, while TRX paid for bandwidth and energy is burned. On 27 September 2026 about 94.97 billion TRX circulated. After fees were cut in August 2025, supply turned slightly inflationary: about +70.5 million TRX net in Q1 2026.
TRON's main use is moving stablecoins. About 92.5 billion USDT is issued on TRON, more than on any other network, and TRON DAO reports about $1.96 trillion of stablecoin settlement in Q1 2026. The network also hosts decentralised finance, led by the JustLend DAO lending market, and TRX is traded on major exchanges, where futures volume often exceeds spot.
Consensus is delegated proof-of-stake. Holders stake TRX to get network resources and voting power, and vote for Super Representatives; the top 27 produce blocks, and 18 of them can change network parameters such as fees and rewards. Voting power is concentrated, and the US SEC's 2023 lawsuit against Sun and his companies, which alleged unregistered TRX sales and wash trading, ended in a March 2026 settlement, still subject to court approval, with a $10 million payment by Rainberry and no ruling on whether TRX is a security.
