Sei Labs is shipping a large re-engineering: SIP-3 made the chain EVM-only in 2026, and Sei 6.6, proposed on 31 July 2026, brings the Eidos storage layer and Ares execution engine, the first parts of the Giga upgrade targeting 200,000 transactions per second.

Sei is backed by Multicoin, Jump and Coinbase Ventures. Canary Capital and 21Shares have filed for SEI exchange-traded funds in the US, but no listing was confirmed by October 2026. Mastercard published joint research with the Sei Development Foundation in August 2026.

Total supply is 10 billion SEI, with about 6.73 billion circulating in October 2026. Staking rewards are paid from gas and genesis token unlocks rather than new issuance, so the remaining roughly 3.27 billion SEI will keep entering circulation.

DefiLlama showed only about $34.2 million of DeFi TVL on Sei on 1 October 2026. Sei reported more than 18 million wallets by April 2025. The 2026 shift to EVM-only disabled inbound IBC transfers, which removed some cross-chain assets.
