Onyx is an EVM-compatible Layer-1 blockchain aimed at banks and financial institutions. Its mainnet launched on 27 March 2026 and uses asynchronous Byzantine Fault Tolerance (aBFT) consensus, with validators selected by staked XCN. XCN pays for gas, can be staked for stXCN, and is used for governance in the Onyx DAO.

XCN also exists as an ERC-20 on Ethereum and on BNB Chain and Base. About 39.53 billion XCN circulate out of 53.4 billion issued, with a maximum of 68.89 billion. Liquid staking rewards are set in a contract whose owner can change rates; the website showed about 30% APR on 1 October 2026.

In September 2026 Onyx agreed to acquire the technology of Chain.com, moved Chain’s institutional services onto Onyx Mesh, and opened a waitlist for Onyx Card, a card for spending XCN, USDC and ETH.
