Can a Muslim hold DeXe?8 Shariah criteria
7 pass · 1 caution · 0 failHolding DEXE pays no interest; rewards come from the treasury for voting and proposal work, and delegators share in them passively.
Riba is interest or any guaranteed increase on a loan. DeXe Protocol DAO pays rewards from its treasury to members who vote on accepted proposals, create them or execute them, which is payment for governance work rather than a return on a loan. Delegators receive 80% of the rewards their delegated tokens earn without voting themselves, which is passive income. CryptoUmmah scores riba 71.5/100 and says the staking design needs careful evaluation, so the criterion is just below the maximum.
DEXE is the governance token of a working DAO toolkit.
This criterion asks whether the asset has real value as property (mal). DEXE gives membership and votes in DeXe Protocol DAO, which manages a set of smart contracts other DAOs use. CryptoUmmah, the first authoritative source that rates it, finds it doubtful mainly for uncertainty and speculation rather than for the nature of the token, so this criterion is at the maximum.
DEXE is not a game of chance, but its trading in 2026 was extremely speculative.
Maysir is gambling: gaining or losing by chance rather than through productive exchange. DEXE is a governance token, not a game of chance. But its price rose to $48.89 on 13 July 2026 and fell more than 90% within days, and CryptoUmmah scores maysir 67.7/100 for speculation risk. The criterion stays at pass, below the maximum.
The protocol charges fees for some functions, with 30% going to the DAO treasury; no impermissible income is documented.
This criterion asks how the issuer or ecosystem earns and whether that income is impermissible. DeXe Protocol is free to use, but fees are charged for distributing rewards and launching initial treasury allocations, and 30% of fees go to the DAO treasury. These are service fees. CryptoUmmah warns that DeFi protocols built with DeXe may run interest-based products, but that concerns third parties, not DEXE itself, so the criterion is at the maximum.
Supply figures conflict, no maximum supply is published, and KuCoin reported large transfers from project-linked wallets before the July 2026 crash.
Gharar is excessive uncertainty or hidden information. CoinMarketCap shows 83.73M DEXE in circulation and CoinGecko about 35.26 million, and no maximum supply is published. KuCoin reported about 625,000 DEXE moved from project-linked wallets to Binance in mid-July 2026. CryptoUmmah scores gharar 65.7/100 and audit quality 50/100. These concrete gaps put the criterion at caution, in line with the authoritative source.
DEXE is used to vote on and run DeXe Protocol DAO.
This criterion looks at what the asset is actually used for. DEXE is used to create, vote on and execute DAO proposals and to delegate votes to experts. These uses are permissible, and no concrete impermissible use of DEXE itself was found, so the criterion is at the maximum.
Fully paid spot DEXE is available and can be held in self-custody.
This criterion asks whether the asset can be owned in a permissible way. DEXE trades spot with full payment and delivery, and as an ERC-20 and BEP-20 token it can be held in self-custody. The criterion is at the maximum.
DeXe offers open tools for DAO governance, but the July 2026 crash caused large losses and raised unconfirmed fears of team dumping.
Maslahah weighs benefit against harm. DeXe Protocol gives communities open tools for transparent voting and treasury control. KuCoin reported that the July 2026 crash followed transfers from project-linked wallets and caused heavy losses, but found no confirmed hack or exploit, and no official finding of misconduct was found. The criterion is at pass, below the maximum.
How you can use it
Tap a card for the ruling and sourcesBuying DEXE with full payment and immediate delivery is available on exchanges, and the tokens can be moved to a self-custody wallet. Expect very high volatility.
No exchange-traded fund or product holding DEXE was found in the sources collected. A product that held DEXE would be judged like spot; its structure would need checking.
DEXE is a governance token and is not used as a means of payment; the protocol fees it relates to are paid inside DAO functions.
DEXE has no network staking. Locking DEXE to vote earns treasury rewards for voting and proposal work, which is acceptable; passive delegation rewards and third-party products called staking need checking.
Margin trading is never acceptable: it is a deferred exchange with borrowed money and leverage (AAOIFI SS 20).
Futures, perpetuals and options always fail under AAOIFI SS 20: deferred exchange without delivery, usually with leverage.
Lending DEXE through exchange or DeFi lending programmes pays depositors interest from borrowers. This is riba.
DEXE pays holders nothing itself. Yield products on DEXE get their return from lending or similar interest-like sources and fail.
