Arweave

Arweave was founded in 2017 by Sam Williams, and the network has run since 8 June 2018. The node code is open source, and the design is documented in a yellow paper. Forward Research supports the ecosystem and acquired Odysee in 2024. Named protocol security audits were not found.

In November 2019 Andreessen Horowitz led a $5 million round, with Multicoin Capital, Union Square Ventures, 1kx and Techstars. CoinGecko also lists AR in the portfolios of Coinbase Ventures and Blockchain Capital. Data on current holder concentration is insufficient.

Supply is capped at 66 million AR: 55 million at genesis and 11 million released as decreasing mining rewards. On 1 October 2026 about 65.65 million AR was in circulation. Most storage fees go into an endowment that pays miners over time.

Arweave is used to store NFT media, archives, publishing and the history of other blockchains, and AO runs on top of it. Current figures on data stored, fees and miners are insufficient in the sources collected.
